History of Stone Wall Acres
A picture given to us by the great grandson of the original owner, Tom Brown, dates this house back to the early 1800's. Architecturally the house looks amazingly similar although it has gone through several transformations since then.
We bought the property in 1985. We were atracted by its location, architecture, and our belief that the house could and should be restored to its original condition. We moved into the house in June of 1991 with most of the renovation completed, and we opened the bed and breakfast in the summer of 2001.
When we purchased the property, it was at its lowest point in history. Within a year or two, it would have been damaged beyond repair. It had fallen into the hands of vandals and just pure neglect. The fact that it is isolated was a blessing but also a curse. It had very few windows left, and all fixtures were destroyed. Vandals had started to destroy the structure and the contents within. Ironically, the hutch in the dining room where you will have breakfast was the one item we were able to salvage.
When you see the property, we believe you will have a better understanding and appreciation for what we are talking about. It is, without a doubt, one of the most pristine pieces of property in the area. We like to think of ourselves now as caretakers of the property. We saved it from ruin and hopefully it will continue to provide enjoyment and comfort for all of you who decide to spend time at Stone Wall Acres. We invite you to share this treasure with us and hope that you will share it with the same kind of appreciation, respect and love that we give it.
